Which shrimps are you getting, all of the ones discussed or just some.  I saw some Wood Shrimps last weekend but didn't have a place to keep them till I could bring them back to town

hey i know this sounds cheap but walmart has ghost shrimp or at least up here they do, and i think they were like .26 cents apiece

Now that you mentions Wal-mart. Even though thier ghost shrimp are a little pricey they are always in clean tanks when I see them. I have been scared to buy ghost shrimp at some of the LFS because they are feeders and are not kept up like the rest of the tanks.

i bought 10 of them like i said at .26 cents a piece, they are all alive i think, they hide all day and come out at night to feed.

I just bought 2 algae shrimp for my community tank. They are Neocaridina sp. crystal blue and they are going to town on the tank! No one else is bothered by them, but they sure wanted to get on my hands when I was cleaning up the tank! They are very active in the daytime.

i think the bamboo shrimp make an awesome and big creature in any aquarium. they clean like a bad complusion.

i have the blue woodshrimp in my 29 with amano's red nose and cherry shrimp and love him even though he isnt that big.

I just got those algae shrimp and today I look in there and see an empty shell of a shrimp floating at the bottom in 2 pieces! So, being new to shrimp, I'm thinking "Who ate my shrimp?"  :evil:  I can see 1 of them right there looking at me, but not the other.

Then I realize it molted! Geez, why didn't someone warn me?   How often do they do this? Is this a good sign or a bad one?

I found the other one hanging onto the backside of a rock, hiding. It looks fine to me. Just a bit hump backed.

:(   I haven't seen my Amano shrimps since I left my Discus and Black Ghost babysitting them while I was out town.  I try to console myself with the possiblity they are hiding really well.  Since Wood shrimps appear to be larger, maybe I'll try them next.

Mine molted tons before my angels turned on them. You need to make sure they have a nice dark hidey-hole so they can harden up. Some people add iodine so they can form their shells better, but I don't think anybody really truly knows whether they need it or not. It would make sense that it would help, but I never added any and mine were fine (until they looked a little too yummy. :? ) Some people leave the shells in there because they will eat them to gain back minerals. I usually only left mine in the tank overnight if they molted in the evening or throughout the day if I noticed the shell in the morning. My experience was that if I left the shell in longer, it would start to break up and get kinda yucky.

Thanks Ellen! The shrimp is hiding behind a rock, but he is still in the path of the others. So far no one has attempted to harm him. I have a very peaceful community tank.  :)

I was wondering if I should get the shell out or not, but it is wedged in between 2 rocks, so it may not be a possibility.

So how often do they do this? Is this an indication of their age or what? I guess now that one has done it I should be ready for the other one to do it as well. I promise I won't freak the next time! :winkle:

Also, what does HTH stand for?
