    Re: Freshwater Shrimp

that is what i was thinking...
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

just wondering, if you keep a shrimp only tank, what would you feed em?

I have my RCS in a shrimp only tank and I fed them flakes, NLS H20 tablets, Algae wafers, and spirulina flakes.

They eat like any other bottom dweller but some of mine will attack the food on it's way down.

              Ghost shrimp?

My pops says out in the creek of his place out in Damon he has what is similar to Amano shrimp.

One day I will make it out there to see what it actually is. It's brackish water so he might be right.

We caught quite a few all nearly an inch long white in color. I would guess they are ghost shrimp and that the water would not be brackish!

                  Re: Freshwater Shrimp

when i had my saltwater reef, i understood that if the tank have too much iodine, thats when the shrimp molts.  it sheds the shell because the iodine buildup is toxic to the shrimp. so it rids of the iodine that way.

Hmm, I always thought iodine was beneficial to inverts?

I think the problem is too much Iodine.

But that being said I don't supplement Iodine to any of my shrimp tanks nor add salt and I see molts all the time.

ditto. I agree that Iodine helps induce molting, but i have found that many of my shrimp molt prematurely when dosing with iodine and die in mid-molt. It seems like the shell has not yet have time to harden to a point that they can just "snap" out of it.

Shrimp should be able to get all their nutrients they need from good quality food.

With regards to the original topic of this thread, i wouldn't put any dwarf shrimp with angels. The angels will make quick work of them. The larger Atyopsis species (like wood shrimp) should be fine.

                        Cheers!
