    Re: Bee shrimp in Houston!!

i found a really intresting thread over at petshrimp.com about the bees and the crs.

inbreeding crs makes the strain weeker and the added bees actually strengthen the strain some.

Well, if you're seriously considering breeding them, this is something to take into consideration.  I think you only really need to introduce a bee shrimp after a few generations though.  Having them together in a tank all the time would probably cause too much mixing and make the crystal reds much rarer since the red is caused by a recessive gene.

Yeah, okay, old thread.    But I'm wondering if anyone has seen any CRS around Houston lately? All I'm seeing on the net is crazy-expensive SSSS++++ grade. They're beautiful, but I'm just looking for something like B grade. Let me know if you've seen any. Thanks!

There are some at Fish Gallery......I would say A grade was a min but there was lots of B and lower but for the price I don't know what to be expecting.....think it was like 3/$25.

They also have Orange Bees but I think those are just colored up with food or something.

yeah i think its just food, because tiger shrimp will change with food coloring as well. there is even a type of hammerhead shark that takes on a yellow color when its young because it feeds on a yellow shrimp. pretty cool i think.

                          Re: Bee shrimp in Houston!!

IS RCS easy to breed? I plan to start with them first b/c it is the cheapest among fancy shrimp

                            The easiest I think...

but with all inverts the water quality needs to be good since they are more sensitive to it then fish.
