  • Dainichi Hotaru Sanke Development

wanted to some pictures of a koi that is a part of a group of 12 that was offered to us to learn from the breeder's latest line of sanke (a white based koi with red (beni/hi) and black(sumi) pattern).

i got her when she was a little less than 12" in April and is now 15". growing well length wise but a little slender compared to her sisters. will bulk up some during our fall here as the weather is just horrendous right now to feed hi protein foods.

pattern is a bit front heavy but there is some sumi on the last third so it will not look bare back there. she does have some issues on the left side with what looks like some weak beni that is progressing. hopefully this will stop and doesn't create too much of a pattern flaw. skin is nice and the shiroji is a soft white. beni color is more orange than red that the rest of my Dainichi possess but she is also the youngest one in the pond so this could be the right color at this stage.

what i'm hoping to learn is 1)how the sumi develops on her as it is the same as when I got her in the spring, 2)how the beni behaves vs the other Dainichi I have and 3)how her body develops vs the other Dainichi in the pond.
