That will work perfectly the pressure of the pond will drain into the filter and the water level will be almost the same it will just take some measuring of the stand pipe coming up to the filter to get it to the same height of the pond water levelCustom Aquarium Cabinets Justin Henry 281-739-8723

With that setup, the water level of the pond needs to be higher than the water level in the filter, which works fine for normal everyday operations, I guess.
But if that is all you need to do, you could very well have a side drain, just a few inches below the water line, much easier to install.
I thought you want to drain all of the water out of the pond sometimes?

I have an additional drain line located near the bottom that would allow me to drain most of the water out.
(diagram at reply #17)
I was thinking that a bottom drain would be able to naturally siphon more of the settling detrius than a top mounted side drain. I could be completely wrong.

Actually, in the picture, you have the drain line's outlet at a higher level than the pond's water level, you wouldn't get any water flow for sure.
