It is not a home depot barrel. When I set this up, home depot / lowes did not sell real barrels. They do now for like $35, much more cost effective then what I have; although mine is a little bit larger.

Great question about the moss, I am really hoping it will take. It came from the parking lot of my apartment complex. It was growing in the large cracks between concrete blocks. They power washed the concrete, and it came up in clumps so I kept it.

How's the pond doing? I am curious how things went through the heat of the summer. Did the temp get high? I've been thinking about starting one of these on my patio.

I had one on my patio for years when I lived in the aheights and it ran terrifically through our summer. I only had a powerhead and prefilter sponge for filtration. I certainly recommend getting some floaters or lotus/water lilies to provide some shade to the inhabitants and I tried to place it out of direct sulight for the entire day, it only received 4-5 hours in the morning. I used a half wine barrel from lowes with no liner. Just soak it for a week prior and it will swell up and stop leaking completely.

Here is a pic of my old pond. That is Wisteria growing out of it, lol. The trailing plant across the water was watercress and I had some Irises in an orchid pot standing on a brick partially submerged that did wonderfully.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

                Thanks! Nice pics, mnemenoi!

I just re-did my 29 gallon for 3 fancy goldfish and I am enjoying them in there right now. But I think I might plan on setting up one of these barrel ponds for them in the spring.
