  • Pond maturation?

Each year seems to have differences. This year I have mostly the red dragonflies. They have been around before ,but were out numbered by green, blue, black/clear, etc , until this year. Maybe I can sell larva.
This year I have many tiny black toads (< 1/2" long) all around the pond; never noticed them before. In addition to the few other species of frogs and toads.
This year no turtles; I had 2 red ears stay 2 years until last year. A few years ago I had 2 cooters, they stayed only one year.
I have seen no snakes yet this year. The last snake I saw was about a year ago; a large coral snake (they eat other snakes).  A neighbor saw a coral a couple weeks ago. I forgot I saw (foolish son picked up) a copper head early this year .

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a cooter?
    Scarecrow : I haven't got a brain... only straw.
Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
