I would run a pump with a prefilter. get one of the new maxi-jets or something and just use it as a utility pump.

The Emperor 400's ar hella strong. I don't need a super current, anyways. Its just gonna pull the water and run it through purigen and some charcoal to clear out the water.

          That splitter right there!!!!

Idk how much suction that emperor can do though. U might wanna split the PVC pipes n half and run 2 filters?

So you don't think there is a need for the Emperor 400. I was gonna use it for media and filter sock to get out the detrius. I could just plumb it to the pipe directly, but then I would have to put the media (purigen, chemipure, and peat balls) in the tank itself. At least with the Emperor, they would be out of the way and clear up my water pretty fast.

I been thinking about using a 55G drum to age my water for water changes. Just load it with IAL leaves, then on water change day, drain out the old water and pump the water in the holding drum back in.

            What are your thoughts??

              More filter is always better.

But if you had a MJ and sponges that's all you need.

Where did you get the tubs from?

Yea, but with a MJ, I don't have anywhere to hide the purigen and chemi pure bags..

How much electricity is either Emperor 400 compared to a Maxijet??

The 300's , I got from Tractor Supply store a few years back. The 75(I think) I just got a few weeks ago from a guy on the local forum. 50 bucks.

                    Thanks!

I'm in the market for one. I need a pond for my dog, ug-lee. He is Asian.

Yea, but one step at a time. Once I get good with CRS /CBS, then I can expand. I still have 1 more 200 G tub that is empty.

Ok, so I am going to empty the small pond and bring it inside tomorrow. With all this advice I am getting, it seems as though it would be best for me to put it inside and make it a shrimp only pond. No fish, no plecos, nothing but shrimps and plants.

I will start another build thread as I go along.

First step is to empty out but save the aging water that I have in there to reuse.

Once I bring inside and empty, I will put my diy undergravel filter in. Put in the lava rock that I have soaking to block the sand/small particles from getting pumped up, then put the akadama soil on top of that.

Ill let it sit for a week, then put some test RCS shrimp in there to make sure the water is habitable for them. Then the journey begins to acquire some good quality CRS.

                            Hope it turns out right.

Where did you order the Akadama from?
