If you're still looking for plants and fish, try Nelson's Water Gardens in Katy. Rolf Nelson is a really nice, knowledgeable guy and has a huge selection of plants and critters.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

Thank you! I will take some pictures tomorrow afternoon and post them. I will be putting the plants in the ground and burying my electrical wiring. I also need to fix my waterfall! The pump seems to be clogged. I was so excited. I already have a water lily and one if the lillies blossumed. This is turning out to be an excellent project and other than the basic maintenance... it is worth the time and money!

Mark, thank you for the lead. I am getting a couple more water lillies and maybe a couple more of the fish but other than that... I am set. I will keep Rolf Nelson in mind and if I am in the area, I will visit just to see what he carries. It is almost a guarentee that I will walk out spending money! There is always something I have not seen or thought about!

I was just thinking...  :bsoop:  :aua: Is there any fish that I can put into my pond that would continue to clean algae?

Chubsuckers (Erimyzon sp.) maybe? Go to the bottom of this page:

I heard they are good algae consumers. 8)

:signhelp: Ok... now for another subject   ... Winter will be here before we know it! I have heard that we might experience colder weather than normal. I know...what is normal weather in Texas?    Well, just wanting to know what precautions I should take for those nights in the 20s, 30s, and 40 degree weather.

NOTE: Thank you all who have been very greatful to help my pond become a success!

                            Re: Michael's Pond Diary

as the weather gets colder become diligent on temperature since feeding at this time as your fish are at a slowed metabolism      in doubt -- don't feed.
IMO -- I would not be so quick to eliminate algae on the walls of your pond as your Koi will graze on this when you are not  feeding them.    Now string algae or green water are not something your Koi care about eating and can be eliminated.
I do not use the waterfalls but pump return direct under the surface so to prevent cooling in cold temps / I do have aeration that is on when waterfalls are not.    my pond is plumbed as such that part of flow always returns direct - just open it all the way in cold weather.
****personally hoping to plumb in heat before then for the giraffe cats  --  if not I have a portable pond they can stay w/ heat & filtration during on cold weather months.****
:(   not ready to do cold weather yet !!!   V.
