What would you like for the bulbs?

These are bulbs only but I can help with the planting if you bring over a pot/basket/bag to plant them in.

What I would like for them is any of the following: Beer, Anubias sp., Cryptocoryne sp., bag of topsoil, bag of small gravel, or if all else fails I would like a Thank-you and some points (as seen when clicked here)

Guess this is the wrong thread for this. Anyone should feel free to PM me. I can always start a thread in the Fish Market if I still need to get rid of some, let's not get in to trouble and speak more of this here! :)

That is a really nice pond. I am thinking of building one in my backyard and have a few question:
1. Do you have a problem with mosquito? How do you deal with it?
2. Do you have frogs gathering to lay eggs?
3. Any snakes hanging around?
4. Any problems with cats or raccoons?

1. Nope. Fish eat mosquito larva. Fish LOVE mosquito larva. Also, mosquitos prefer motionless water.
2. Hell yeah. Sometimes mating season for certian Toads can get REALLY loud at night. I sleep with a floor fan on those nights to cancel out that racket with some white noise. You can remove the larva strings when you see them in the pond or just put up with the tadpoles. It's cute to have a bunch of baby frogs and toads hopping around when they mature. Some toads live near-by in clever hideouts. I know of another pond keeper that physically collects his loud toads during mating season and transports them! Too much bother for me.
3. I have seen a few garter snakes in the past 5 years, nothing else.
4. I saw a raccoon once when I first installed the pond but he did not do any damage. The neighbor behind me reported seeing one a year or so ago. On few occasions I have a pot or two knocked over but I usually attribute that to wind. Now, having said that, a good friend of mine lost some really nice Koi to repeated raccoon attacks. After capturing not 1 but 2 raccoons he redesigned his pond so that there was not places for a raccoon to get access to the fish, basically a swimming pool without the steps. My pond is very accessible, I have just been lucky.. and don't stock expensive koi The neighbor's cat comes over from time to time but she is mostly interested in the birdfeeder... I talked the neighbor into putting a bell on their cats collar and they graciously complied.

This is one of the reasons that I have a pond; it attracts life. Birds, dragon flies, frogs, etc, Its nice to have a little bit of nature when stuck in suburbia.

Toads are annoying. Every year I grab a bucket and flashlight and do a toad roundup so that the neighbors don't call the cops on me from all of the croaking.

Sorry, didn't find the post until today. What sized gravel are you looking for?

The secret to a nice pond is to skip the koi. They are really destructive when it comes to plants. They also can be expensive, require a lot more filtration and are less tolerable to changes in their environment. I really appreciate koi ponds because I respect the effort and care needed to keep them. I have other hobbies so I strive for simplicity in this one.

Good point on the noise. If anyone out there is planning a pond, be sure to have it approved by the HOA! That way they can't take it away from you. Even then if they still try to pressure you, you can hit them up with a bunch of greenie wacky environmental stuff. Anyways, the floor fan in the bedroom works for me during these toad breeding periods. Those sparse periods of noise really is a small price to pay to have a nice aquatic environment outside your back door.

I usually plant with dirt (no ferts or manure), layer of sand, pea gravel, and then small gravel (no limestone). I have sand and need the rest.

Anyways, are you talking about pond plants or those around the outside of rock perimeter?
