Holy crap that thing is beautiful!!!!!


I will be clearing out a 2.5g soon and was going to let it dry out but I think I found a nice candidate for it now.....that is if you will have some available and you wanna sell it to me.

Another problem with giants is that they grow slower so it will be 6 months before I know if the fry will be Giants or half giants or just regular size.  But the nice thing about the short fins is they don't get that tattered look as they get older / bigger.

Have not been able to count them as the tank is full of java moss.
But the ones I have seen are about 3/16" now

Aw. I wanna see a photo of the babies hiding in the java moss.  What size are your 'normals' at 2 months? Do you think these look very different? That daddy fish is sure a beauty !

PP are the giant one's more aggressive?  do you think one male or alternatively couple of females will be fine in a community tank with cardinal and glowlight tetras and ocats?

This pair is actually very docile but my giant blue female did a number on her male and he died a few weeks later.

I think the normal size bettas would do better with that selection of fish.
In general the show fish are less aggressive than the mass produced veil tails you find at petsmart.  But these guys and girls have individual personalitys and it's impossable to make general rules.

that makes sense, my petsmart betta who i had for 2.5 yrs was very nice to all the other fish in the tank (small 5.5gal with cardinals and dwarf platy), he was the boss for sure, but he would not even harm/eat the little dwarf platy frys when they were right in front of his mouth at 1 day old!  once or twice a day he would chase one or two fish for 3 seconds just to remind them that he was the boss and that was it, the first female i added jumped off after being chased to oblivian, the second one ignored him and was able to live happily for a long time with him, i miss having the little guy, he actually grew pretty big too, eventually at old age he died from a severe case of fin rot that went from nothing the first day to complete fin rotting off in the third day :(   i guess his number was up - at least he lived a long healthy (and hopefully happy) life before that :)

Wow... 4" at 18 weeks.  Were your bettas long tail or plakats?  How is your Mac breeding?

Mine were typical round tail plakats,  the size and color was great, but the finnage need a lot of work.   But a moot point as I could not get the reds to spawn and the blue spawn died while I was in the hospital.

i read some where that giants r prone to getting constipated and if that happens, u r to fast them for 24 then feed them the inside of a cooked pea, is this true

Swim bladder problems are common in Bettas,  more so in DT than others, because of their shorter bodies.  But swim bladder problems are caused by constipation (swolen gut) blocking the access to the swim bladder.  Verry common in fry that eat brine shrimp egg shell, so we try to separate the BBS from the shell.   One af the ways to relieve constipation in adults is to feed them cooked peas or green beans another to to stop feeding them.  
I have had little success resolving swim bladder problems as it seems that once a betta has problems they continue to return.
