  • Endler's livebearers

Anybody keep endlers?  Just curious.  I've begun breeding them and have ended up with a species tank with mostly female (not sure how that happened).  Probably my favorite livebearer.

      Re: Endler's livebearers

We would be interested in getting any spare endler's you have to start a school of our own.  We heard they are really fun to have and there are all different varieties.  Could share some back again if we have good lock with them or pick up some different varieties.  Endler's are related to the guppies.  ken/mark

I have only seen some very weak ones at a pet store once.

if I remember correctly, endlers are about half the size and twice the color of feeder guppies
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

          Re: Endler's livebearers

well endlers, they came from laguna de patos in venezuela, there is a discussion about this fish.
some people say they are just guppies some other people say they are not.
but the bottom line its they are very brigth, colorfull, but small, and females a little beat bigger than the males.
i do have some , not many and i am interested in have some more, if somebody would like to trade some.
          there is several lines.
i will post a link with lots of information about them

another important thing, guppies and enldlers are capable of fertile hibrids, so dont mix them.
thats all i have to say, thank you for reading.

I understand the problem. I have some little "guppies". The females are full size. Some are yellow or red with black markings. Some are cobra or snake. Some are sword tail top and/or bottom. Others are straight. I suspect they have endlers in the pedigree.

Responsible breeders are trying to keep some of these endlers strains going and "pure".

              Re: Endler's livebearers

Well I've got about 4 or 5 females that appear to be pregnat, one male who is just starting to show male features, and some fry.  I'm breeding them but I'm not *breeding* them, that is i'm not trying to select any traits, I just put them all together and let nature take it's course.  I understand you get better specimens that way but don't ask me how.

They should be pure strain.  I got them all at Fish Ranch off of 59 near Bellaire and they run a pretty tight ship.  Their man tells me they got them from a farm in Florida.  They've been in a 30 gallon community tank with neons until I could get their own 10 gallon tank cycled.  My intent was to have an endlers species tank but I ended up putting a dwarf gourami in with them.  But they've never been in any tank with any other livebearers and I've not seen any fancy tail guppy traits suddenly show up in the fry so I'm pretty confident they are pure.

I'd be willing to part with some of my adult females.  I've got enough fry overall that I'm not going to lose the lot so for those of you that want one we could probably work something out.

I am interested.  I'm at work and people keep insisting that I, y'know, get some work done.  I'll have a look as soon as I can placate those people.

charliefoxtrot, The HLA is going to have an exhibit at the UTMB Earth Day Exposition Friday April 28,2006 at Moody Medical Library Plaza in Galveston 10am-2pm. It sure would be cool to have some endlers there and someone to talk about these native fish. ken/mark can help with any questions you might have.

That first one is a pretty cool hybrid.  I don't have any strong feelings about hybrids as long as I know that's what it is.  I wouldn't mind having one but would make it a point to keep it seperate from my current stock of endlers.

                              Re: Endler's livebearers

I have an Endler!  I bought a pair of them at my local Petco, being sold as Guppies.  I didn't know there was such a thing at the time, but I found out about them on the internet once I had them.  I thought they were just young interestingly-colored guppies.  Unfortunately, my female died, but little male Endler is having a ball trying to impregnate all my female guppies.  I don't think he knows he's a different species.  I have a community tank with one Gold Lyretail Molly pair, little ladies-man Endler, and lots of Guppies.

I keep very busy being a stay-at-home mom to a rambunctious toddler boy, but I do enjoy my small-scale one-tank livebearer husbandry hobby.  All my fish came from local pet stores, nothing terribly fancy or expensive.  I get some interesting combinations though.  One of my Guppies (born in my tank) even has an upswept fin like a shark.

I would like to get a couple of female Endlers if anyone has any they're willing to part with for really cheap--or for a trade.  My female Molly just had babies, and it looks like the sire was a Black Molly.  Her babies are black and gold.  Of course, there are always misc. Guppy fry...I think I have 27 at the moment, too young yet to be sexed.
