  • Do You Keep Guppies In Brackish?

I'm just curious to know how many of you all keep your guppies in brackish water.

I know that I can't do that with the betta, pleco and frogs but I'd still like to know. Do you think brackish is better and if so why? Could be something I would try later on since Crizz is responsible for making me fall in love with guppies. I had a brackish puffer for years so maintaining that type of tank is easy for me.

Thank you for sharing your wisdom.

Guppy's are not brackish water fish.
    Molly's are brackish water fish.

That's what I thought. Seems like an awful lot of people out there are putting guppies in brackish. Of course that doesn't make it right though.

Crizz and I got some awesome guppies from T & T last weekend.

With careful acclimation, Guppies can, and will, survive in brackish water. They can even be kept in full marine water too.

          There is something
fishy going on here, and I kinda like it!

A lot of fish can take brackish water. Guppy's can but it's not that easy to do. Molly's are native to the Texas gulf coast. At our place in Sargent. You can catch them with a cast net an place there is water.

Wow full marine! I had no idea. Do they thrive? Is it really good for them?

Probably not. Just wondering why you want to go that route anyway? Is it for pond raise?
If it were me, I want to show case them in a fresh clean water tank, so I can view them from the side.

I'm not going to do any of that, I agree with wanting them to be in a nice clear tank where I can see them. There are times that I will literally sit and watch my guys for 3-4hrs at a time. It never gets boring. I'm just coming to you all for learning purposes about what I'm reading.

I want to give my fish what they need so they will thrive.

Anything is possible but it might not be best for the fish. :emt_thumbs:

From what I read, fancy guppies can't tolerate much salt. Haven't seen someone state salinity levels. Also once guppies go in brackish, going back to freshwater is tough on them. As for me, if they do good in freshwater, there's no need to add salt.

Do you have guppies now? They were my first fish and I was the 3rd owner of them and their tank.

No, I like fish that eat guppies >:) lol. I haven't had a freshwater tank in almost 6 years. I've had guppies before to breed and they sure did.
