I have been looking at the calendar. I know there is an earth day event Friday the 28th and the HAS auction is tenatively scheduled for Sunday April 30th. What do you think of making a calendar event for the Safari-0406 for noon April 22 or 23rd at Amand Bayou Park located on Bay Area Blvd?
The safari is scheduled for next Saturday April 22 from 10 am to 5 pm at Armond Bayou Park on Bay Area Blvd. This should be a nice location with a pier tables and bathrooms. Bring a picknic lunch, fishing license and your gear. rrocket2002, Phish Phreek, and I will be there. Ken/Mark have another engagement so they will miss this one. Everyone is welcome.
I'm looking forward to catching a small aligator gar.....
or maybe just an aligator
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'
Looking forward to seeing you both again at this month's Safari at Armond Barou Park. It should be really nice. Last months was a ton of fun, I learned how to throw a casting net for the first time myself and my boys (all 3) were so into it.
Max, Phreek, and I are extending an invitation to anyone that would like to come. The more people to show up the more fun to be had by all. Not only do you try to catch native and non-native fish, you get to talk to others who enjoy the same interest ......FISH. Max and Phreek have alot experience and knowledge to share. I know alot, but there are still alot of things I don't know. Thats one of the things that makes these events fun. You get to talk and share with other fish hobbyist.
Last Safari in March, we caught so many fish. I have wild Mollies (male and female). I even have some fry in a breeder box, waiting till they are big enough to let out in general population. But there are perch, sunfish, gator, mullet, mollies, and I've heard plecos plus who knows.....
If you have any questions just ask here or you can reach me on my cell.
I baited my minnow traps with cat food last time and I caught absolutely nothing. The traps are store bought and look like they are made of small hail screen. What do you all recommend?
Well...as for food, I would recommend going to Academy. For a couple of bucks you can buy a bag of bait used for catfish....I suggest one that hase shrimp and or chicken. It comes in little balls or cubes about the size of a quarter and have the same texture as childrens claydo.
Take a some bait and press over one or two medium size stones that will fit in the trap, but will not easy come out. The bait will stick on the stones like gum.
AS for the trap.....we are trying to catch relatively small fish, though larger ones are nice. If the holes on the screen are too big, you can take some fish line and thread the screen using every other opening to increase the screens effectiveness. Of course this will take a little time to do especially if the trap is large.
Academy also sells cheap small plastic jars with inserts that easily allow small fish in, but not so easy to get out. These are just a couple of dollars and prolly what I will be using.
I know Phreek was using some crawlfish, but did not catch anything on that trip.....but then he left early because he was not feeling well.
Three days to go folks. I'll have a cooler with some sodas if someone gets thirsty.... 8)
I believe it would be best for everyone coming to park near the pier. When you enter the park, follow the road all the way around almost towards the exit back onto Bay Area, the pier will be on your left as well as some parking spaces. If anyone has canoe, you can launch off from there.
