    Re: Safari-0406

rrocket2002 the pier you are talking about is in Bay Area Park!! Amand Bayou Park is North between entrance and Red Bluff of there only one way in and one way out.

Unless something has change in the past few years.

I hope we all end up at the same place. I think I will take a cell phone and call Raul because you all keep talking this way. I think we said the park was on Bay Area Blvd real close to Red Bluff.

        Re: Safari-0406

Regardless it is on bayarea blvd.  If I am taking red bluff coming from Deer Park/Pasadena, I turn right onto bay area blvd.

You will pass the Armand bayou nature center, that will be on your left side, then about another mile or two down the road you will the park on your left.  One way in, one way out.

If you pass space center houston, you went too far.

If you are coming from I-45,  If you you pass Red Bluff, you went too far.

          Re: Safari-D-day

Well the heat really got to me. The thermomometer on my car said 87 on the way home at 1pm.   Even my bettas only like 82.....     I came home and took a nap.
Just woke up and went to check on my aquizitions.

The water checked out at 1.005 sg - Anyone know what salt water is ?
None of the traps caught anything but the castingnets were very productive. The Shrimp & Flounder made it,  I lost about half of the crokers, all of the yellow tails and the one teanny tiney unknown.

I put all the survivors in an established 20g high with a power filter and a tree stump.
Added a couple of large handfulls of salt.  When that has disolved, I'll check the sg and add more salt if needed.   Never considered keeping shrimp.... this could be interesting.

Those of you who didn't make it should add it to your list of thigs to get around to.   The park is beautiful and well cared for the restrooms are clean the picknick tables are covered and plentiful.  there is a boat launch ramp for non powered boats.  Sure wish I still had my peddle powered pontoon boat.  Baseball field, playgrounds and plenty of trees.  But the water does not support plecos and other released tropical fish.....
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

              Agreed. 1.027 is ideal.

                Re: Safari-0406

It did get a little warm....

I ended up with quite a few fish, but only kept the ones I wanted...a dozen or so.  My son even did a little crabbing....quite a few of those too.

I kept one yellow tail, a large shrimp(5-6") and some wild female mollies.  They are all still alive as of a few minutes ago.  After adding them to an established freshwater tank, I added about two teaspoons of aquarium salt.  This time I did not add any of the Bayou water and gave the first parasite treatment.

the park is nice, really enjoyable.  Phreek's Flounder was a nice surprise.  On one toss of the net I caught two 12" mullet....LOL

I plan to go again soon.

                  Re: Safari-0406

It was a really nice park and I had fun but I wish I could have had one of those kayaks to paddle around in. They must have launched 20-40 of those while we were there. The kayakers talked about paddling away from the alligators and there were signs but I did not see any. I did see a two does across the lake at the other pier.  The geese fished around my traps and I caught nothing in the traps again. I did catch fish and shrimp with Raul's cast net but I gave them away. The tide was way out and the pier with the deer did not have much water around it.
