I have a plant light that fits into a 20" hood, but am wondering if I can just put the tank by a window. Will the plants grow as well as they would if I put the plant bulb over them?

The light over them will be greater since the window light is inconsistent and mostly on the side.

The inconsistencies will force you to alter your dosing and co2 to keep up or slow down.
