  • Will HC grow on Driftwood ?

I bought 6 of these HC "rocks". It is HC growing on lava rocks, looks exactly like the ones in this picture. I am adding them to the 46 gallon bowfront I am working on (there is another post on that). My question is, how well will this grow on my driftwood. I was going to strategically place a couple on some of the ledges and impressions on my wood. Will it take off and grow, or do the roots really need to substrate to grow into ?

i have seen it as ground cover but never noticed it trying to climb wood

if its growing on lava rocks right now , it should grow on wood.
and btw Nice Setup ( the bowfront)
      whats hc anyway?
if its a stem plant might be hard to anchor to wood.

HC is dwarf baby tears. I would be surprised if it will grow on driftwood

Well, I going to give it a shot and see what happens. 4 of the HC "rocks" I put in the substrate, 2 I place on the wood. If I notice that they aren't doing well on the wood, I'll move them down with the others. Hopefully in 6 months I'll have a nice carpet on the bottom of the tank !

Do you still have the 96W on the tank? You might need to increase it for these plants they are a high light plant and that wattage is more for low-moderate light plants.

I do have the 96W light at this point. I do plan to add another light fixture. Since this is a bowfront tank, I want to add a 2 foot fisture to the front of the tank. The 3 foot I have now sits at the back of the tank and ends up casting some shadows toward the front, so I've been looking for another light to add.

Just noticed this. I have seen it grown on rocks, I think someone tried wood before but did not work well. If you get it to work let us know.

I am hoping that since it is already very well established on the lava rocks that will make the transition to it spreading on the driftwood easier. Not having to start with small pieces and trying to tie them on might give it a better chance.

                      RE:

I stuck just a little sprig in a crevice of my drift wood 8-10 mo ago and it went nutz. Looked awesome because it tended to grow in a large ball on the end of the wood.

Aquariumplants.com sells it attached to driftwood.

If you are adding lights to an existing AH Supply makes a nice kit. Quality componets and easy to install. http://www.ahsupply.com/index.html $45 for a single 55W CF or $70 for a two bulb kit. The blubs are seperate @ $18 each.

Yeah, I think that was the reason the person I read about not liking it. Different strokes I guess. I think that person was wanting it to creep on the wood.

Post pic's so we can see what it looks like.
