Re: Sword plant - what is this?

Here's the first picture I saw about the shoot:

It's a little ways down on the page, I found it searching through google images. But there's not much info about the shoots out there, at least that I could find. I'm just following your advice, as I'm sure this can be considered a tropical as well!

And thanks! It's a Canon S3IS. I still have no idea what I'm doing, but out of all the pictures I take, I end up with a couple good ones! Happy Birthday to your daughter (also belated)!

Those are blooms! I think you should wait for them to flower, and then pinch back and plant. Just my opinion. Try it on one first then go from there.

yes its the sword flowering, thats how i have always seen them propagate. they do it all the time at my store when they first come in and get thrown under the metal halide. thats in fact where i got all my little baby swords. you just wait for a couple of tiny leaves and even real thin roots to stem off from the flower stem. and then every little bud becomes one or even two sword plants. but they dont grow super super fast. mine that started as little babies are now about 3 to 4 inches tall. Scott got a couple in with his big batch of Vals from me at the last swap. i think he got red melon swords, thin leaved and they can trun red color

Re: Sword plant - what is this?

Just wanted to update - It finally flowered! Only lasted for a day  :(  but now in its place a couple of tiny light-green leaves are sprouting.  :)  I took these last week, been so busy I didn't have time to post them, but I wanted to because it's my first time a plant's flowered for me!

These two are of the flower when I first saw it in the morning. I was a bit disappointed, to tell the truth, I thought this was going to be all.

But then later that afternoon, it was an actual flower.

                  Thanks!

The new plantlet (I'm assuming that's what it is) is growing pretty quickly, I'm excited to see what happens.
