  • 29 gallon Oceanic Bio Cube Project

I'm converting to a low maintenance plant tank. So far I've purchased some Anubis plants, red sea flora base and manzanita wood.

Wanting to add shrimp a few small fish and maybe the right piece of rock.

What's something off the wall from a live stock standpoint that I could add?

    Looking for ideas.

    Thanks

Samurai gouramis, sphaerichthys vaillanti, look interesting; one of the few sexually dimorphic fish where the female is actually prettier than the male. I think a trio of those would do well in your tank.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

I was hoping that you would weigh in on this.

Where do I find this fish that you speak of?

      Thanks

You could try one of the bigger stores who have multiple supply avenues. I haven't seen any locally but that doesn't mean they're not available. I have a friend at Aquaria Central that keeps them and bought them from a lfs in NYC, so they're available in the U.S.

How about something available locally from a fellow fish boxer or LFS

A trio of blue rams would go well, or apistos. Not necessarily classed as exotics but beautiful and interesting fish. Some of the gobies that some fellow boxers keep are also neat fish and available locally. I think the desert gobies that GirlGeek keeps are especially cool.

                +1 on the gobies.

If you are looking for killifish, may I suggest:

Killi fish is a really interesting angle.

I do know that shrimp of some sort will be in the mix.

I want this tank stock and build out to be something unique.

Can't make it to the show that weekend.

                  Where can I find Killifish?

On the bio cube the chambers are an attraction to jumpers. I've fished fish out more than once and i see these guys are jumpers.

+1 on gobys. Try the red neon that way you will have algae control as well. Have you seen the new electric blue rams. nice but I still prefer the Germans blues.

Another great fish if you can stop the jumping would be an African butterfly. Very prehistoric looking. But not good with shrimp that linger at the top of the tank.

Gobies seem like a good bottom dweller option.

I saw some at Fish Gallery and the strain they had were a brackish variety.

Where locally can I find stock?
