Yeah I don't think I could ever find a valve for the nitrous bottle but when I get my regulator I'm gonna find out.

I have found that fire extinguisher places want waaaayyy too much for new tanks/filled. I called a few places that a friends shop deals with and they wanted around $200 for a new filled tank.

            Re: home built solenoid regulator

I ended up getting one from village tropical.

Brand new 10lb, handle and filled for $129

I also have one of the regulators from rexgriggs coming and the main difference is the regulator quality and the low pressure regulator to keep from dumping and to fine tune. So there is four valves to screw with including the one on the bottle. All inclusive set up so I will report back on it when I get it.

A place I called down this way in Alvin charges 13 bucks to swap an empty 5 pound tank for a filled one.  That's pretty good I think.

                5 lb shipped for 65
                10lb shipped for 86

My brother suggested renting a tank. probably something like 20-30 bucks (guessing) for a tank that may last me a year thats not a bad deal.

                  Re: home built solenoid regulator

gander mountain and village tropical charges about that much to fill the 10lb i believe and from what i got from my friends that play paintball its cheaper sometimes to fill the larger tanks.

and with renting tanks you still have to leave a deposit so its about the same.

i found lots of places that sold online but if filled it would have a more expensive shipping rate and not filled it would come to about the same if after shipping and gettting it filled. aquariumplants.com sells tanks filled/new and its decent but again the same if bought from the places above.

                    Re: home built solenoid regulator

well i got my regulator from rexgrigg's and have to say that im pretty impressed. installed it and got a super cloud of tiny bubbles compared to the diy and at similar bpm rates too! super pearling action from all the plants about an hour after the install.

all fittings are loctite'd and teflon paste was used from the looks of it. the thing would adjust down to 1bpm and a good stream with low psi.

the regulator has the high press reg., low pres reg and the needle valve so you can fine tune this bad boy!

i think next time i will assemble my own though to save a bit.

here are some pics i snapped of it.

hopefully my HUGE 20lb tank is on its way already. found it on ebay and got it shipped for $74. I have a few inches to spare under my tank so I should be ok. Just wish it would hurry up, the algae is getting crazy.

How hot does your solenoid get?  I used the same one Rex uses, but mine does get a little warm.

                        Thanks

it gets warm but its a solenoid so i dont worry about it too much. they all get warm when they have to be powerful so that the gas doenst overcome it.
