  • My 10g planted tank.

    Hi folks!

I want to share my first attempt at a planted aquarium.

    First thanks to:
Krisvalkyrie for selling me her 10g, aquasoil, plants and RCS.
    insomiaclush for the light fixture.
Fish Ranch II for the livestock.
I owe a lot to the great people on this community!

    Specs:
    10g standard
    Aquasoil topped with Eco-Complete
Current USA Satellite Dual 2x40 Watt 20" PC
    Hagen Nutrafin CO2 system
    Whisper 10 HOB
    Small submersible heater

    Plants:
    Blyxa Japonica
    HC
    Dwarf Hairgrass
    Baby Tears
    Wisteria
    Rotala Indica
    Cabomba Furtata
    Java Moss

    Livestock:
    7 Neon Tetras
    4 Red Badis
    5 Galaxy Rasboras
    15+ RCS
1 Clown Pleco (need to get this guy out)

    Pics:

Pics show it at 3 weeks. Now it is at 6. I already trimmed some of the Rotala and replanted some HC cuttings to get them to spread. Please let me know what you think and how I can make this tank better. Cheers.

Very pretty tank! Nicely done, especially for a 10g.

The cabomba is a striking plant and it is growing well. I need to figure out a method of successfully trimming it without loosing too much of the crowns at the tip of the stems. I've been replanting those in the mean time.

I haven't grown cabomba, but I suspect it's best to snip off the tops, discard the bottoms, and replant the tops. Most stems will grow new roots very easily, and the overall effect is nicer than trimming the tops off and waiting for new growth to come back in.

Yes, cabomba will regrow new "crowns". By planting the cuttings you will get new plants as well. Don't worry about cutting and not having the crowinging effect. They will grow back more lush than before.

...and that's exactly what I did to the Cabomba today. I cut off some overgrowth and replanted them. I've noticed that the cut I made last week at a node is starting to have two buds of minute crowns.

I've also installed the 2211 I bought from Kevinly. The output flow from the spray bar was too much so I had to dial it down at the output valve. Now I've got some beading back on the plant leaves.
