  • DIY CO2 and Canister

Have a question hopefully someone can help.

I have a 29g planted tank with canister filter and diy co2(1 2l bottle).

Can i put the airstone into the inlet of the canister filter.... I have read somewhere that it can cause damage to the impeller, but that may have been pressurized.

Anyone know if it will be fine or if i should change it around

This was covered somewhat in this thread: http://houstonfishbox.com/vforums/sh...ad.php?t=30143

It's safe to assume that Kevin and Wesley run pressurized CO2. Isn't 29 gallons the limit for a 2 liter bottle DIY? Is it successful?

Alrighty, think i may make a few rearrangements and see what new idea I come up with(rather not risk messing up the filter).

The CO2 has been in this tank for two weeks. I have noticed a few things(both good and bad)
-The duckweed in the tank disappeared completely(probably bad, but i wanted it gone so saved me the problem of manually removing it)
-Anacharis is looking a bit crappy now, color turned darkish, and leaves seem a bit shredded and falling apart.

-I have pearling now in some of my plants, nothing major but didn't have any before.
-The rest of my plants(wisteria, crypts, moss, ferns, anubias) have all had significant new grow past week or so.

All in all I think I may keep it around, if i decide I dont like it then I will take it off and go back to non CO2(which was fine, just curious to see how much of an effect diy CO2 made)

My friend is giving me a 29g tank and I will go planted. At least I can do a DIY and still get decent growth with the right plants. Thanks for the info.

Question: What are the lights are you using? I can apply 42 watts to give 1.5 wpg. Can you share a pic of your tank?

I run 3 26 watt spiral daylight bulbs I got from walmart(about 2.7 wpg). They are placed in a hood I made.

Ill try and snap a picture of the tank tomorrow if I have the time

Tank needs to be cleaned and plants need a trim, just been too busy to get around to it.

Just for reference, ive had the tank set up for a long time. Ive had the DIY Co2 hooked up for just under a month now. This is a picture i took right before I added the DIY Co2.

You can notice a huge difference in the growth. The crypt wendii had just been added to the tank a week or so before I took this picture. The wisteria has been in the tank since december, and had not grown much in that time period. After adding the CO2 in a month it has grown more than it has in 7 months prior to the CO2.

I think the only thing new to the tank is the anubias. Other than that you can see the differnce the CO2 has made.

Also I dose with ferts flourish every so often, but not on a regular schedule.

head over to plantedtank.net, this topic has been brought up many many times, the end results is pretty much the same, it will creat a pocket of bubble in ur canister over time, won't be a problem if you clean up ur canister like every week...

I just hooked one of these up inline from the output of my cannister filter and it works great. No diffusor necessary and is inexpensive.

i think the best thing to use with diy co2 is one of those elite internal mini filter, its like 10 bucks, take the side stickers off and plug the co2 into the intake.. works out really really well in my 34g
