  • 6 gal planted tank journal

Ok so after many weeks of having everything but plants, i went and got some nice plants from HAW...i had a hard time planting the plants and it really pissed me off....well anyways here are some pics

im thinking of adding a DIY CO2 thingy and i might go get a canister filter

when should i start using fertilizers
and should i be doing water changes, no fishies in the tank

Could you remind us of the equipment you're using? Light, filter, etc?

You should probably start dosing a little now. Are you using AquaSoil?

Are you planning on adding fish anytime?

What plants did you get? Is that Blyxa?

the tank is a 6 gal eclipse. i removed the hood, the filter, and the lights from the original tank. There is a HOB whisper filter, aquasoil, 1 piece of driftwood, a rock, i forgot all the names of the plants....i got them from HAW. Then the light is a heat lamp with a clamp. The light in there is a spiral CFL......

there are 3 of those plants on the left
2 of the tall one on the right
and i think that is an anubis behind the driftwood.....

what should i start dosing with...i just put the soil in yesterday when i set up the tank
can you tell me what to get

it's just the beginning, let it take it's course. You don't have too much lights on there.

Let the tank settle then try to balance out the lights, ferts, and CO2.

Getting some fast growing plants wouldn't hurt.

I would have boiled the wood.

I'd start the CO2 if you have it ready. Might want to wait a little while until you notice your plants starting to grow. Then start adding ferts. The AquaSoil should be enough for right now, at least in my experience.

                ok so update

one of the plants is turning yellow(right side plant in pic)...what does this mean

one of the other ones (left side plant) some of the leaves or whatever u want to call them has like holes in them....not really holes but like tears along the leaf
                what does that mean

i started to dose with excel everyday....and i was leaving the light on for like 12 hours but now i brought it down to 8

                o and 1 more thing
should i dose with excel before i turn on the light...or after i turn them off or when they are on...

yellowing usually means lack of potassium. dose when light are on . why did you cut back on the lights? i would get a new bulb those spiral cf bulbs don't have the right heat (kelvin) ratings for plants.

                    3.5g - Surge Tank
10g - Ichthyophthirius multifilis breeding colony

i thought that the plants were turning yellow because of the light...also i thought that the plant on the left was melting....like the leaves have long tears in them...
