"T-5 bulbs u can go a little lower wattage because it is a brighter bulb than average fluorescent bulb."

(Sorry, my quote button isn't working today, lol)

Silentspidey- could you link a resource or two that explains this? I understand that a 24" NO fluorescent will use less watts than a 24" T5HO fluorescent, but not how a T5HO's brightness means you can use lower wattage. It's just not clicking with me.

    Thanks! :)

In comparing let say a T12 vs a T5, if they are the same watts the T5 will be much more efficient. This is due to the thinner body of the bulb, which allows more of it to be reflected into the water surface than compared to a t12.

I think this is what he means

Yea precisely the surface area provides more reflection. Just what i have been told and i use it as well. It seems to doin fine for me. But these plants will find a way to grow no matter what. any good light source will do well.
