Dont take this the wrong way only want to help out but the last four pics of the cobalts they look under fed at least from the pics it looks like I can see the cranial bones. With Juvies make sure you feed the crap out of them and then feed them some more. Otherwise you run the risk of stunting them and they will stay juvies and you will run into issues later. Other than that I like the scape and everything. Trust me I learned from experience.

I have to agree with Brian. I never mix juvies and larger discus or angels because the juvies wind up stunted almost every time. The sharp forehead is a dead giveaway that the fish aren't getting enough to eat.

The tank is beautiful, but I'd pull all the small discus and grow them out in another tank if it were me.

You're right, though, they were on the skinny side. They refused to eat anything other than bloodworms. So I gave in, and fed a ton more bloodworms. I have some frozen sfb beefheart I'm feeding them as well, and they seem to like that now, while the tetras aren't fond of it. They're also starting to take in some brine shrimp. Those dang tetras were stealing most of the food, so I'd distract them on one side of the tank, while I fed brine shrimp and bloodworms at the other side. I think they know of my plan to trick them with food and catch them as they eat, so they're staying low and letting the food come to them. They're coming out though, one by one if I have to catch them that way.

I pretty much jumped the gun with getting juvies, since I was excited about discus... Since the only other tank I have running is a 29g, they'll have to stay here. I'll just have to keep feeding as much, if not even more than I've been feeding lately, which is a lot. Good thing I've got a python too, I couldn't imagine doing these daily waterchanges with the ol' bucket and siphon.

BW isnt the best stuff to feed as a meal. It should be given as snack since it contains no real nutritional value to them just as an FYI.

Yeah, I read that, which is why I kept trying to get them to eat beefheart, but they wouldn't touch it until just recently. What else can I feed them that has nutritional value? I've been trying to feed them tetracolor bits, but they're ignoring it. They'll eat some New Life Spectrum growth food every now and then.

beefheart meal is good if they like that its just messy. I feed mine color bits. I never tried NLS.

Keep trying them on new foods. I've found that the more different foods they'll eat, the more willing they seem to be to try new foods. Remember also that discus are almost "grazers" in their feeding behavior. They'll wait until the food hits the bottom then peck at it there. If your other fish get to the food before they get a chance, they'll get less than they need.

Is San Francisco Bay beefheart alright for now, or would I be better off making my own. Hikari has a discus 'beefheart substitute', anyone tried that before?

Yeah, I noticed that about them. Luckily, the tetras keep their distance from the rams and discus. Distracting the rams is easy enough, but they're fast eaters. I'll keep switching up the foods on them feeding them less bw until they finally start eating more of other things. I'd just like the blue colbalts to fatten up a bit more.

Never tried the beefhearts maybe someone else can chime in on that. I want to make my own but havent gotten around to doing it and what to include and what not. +1 on Marks comments my group usually takes about an hour to eat their food. Some of them are aggressive about it and will attack it as soon as it hits the ground but the older ones generally wait a while and then start to graze looking for food and blowing on it.
