  • suggestions on what plants to use?

i have a few questions about the ada tank im going to be getting soon.
im doing a planted shrimp tank, i plan on using a Coralife mini cf 2x 9watt 6700k bulbs, eco complete, manzinita, and a couple small stones, im thinking zebra rock.
for fauna i either want yellow shrimp, or crs.
im thinking of a couple zebra otos for a clean up crew.
and as far as plants go, i dont really know what im going to do there, cause ive never planted anything smaller then a 10g.

im wanting either an ada 45-F or an ada mini-L.

for a background im thinking either sky blue or fushia, i dont know yet.
anywho, i just wanted opinions on what plants yall think would look good/do good in such a small tank that wouldnt require co2.
im going to dose with excel as needed.

    thanks in advance,
    Brian

      What size is the tank?

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

Mosses are great for shrimp tanks and smaller tanks as well. Look for the more structured ones such as flame and xmas moss. Ricca also looks good in those size tanks. Anubias the smallest version (petite i think) would be good. Java ferns would be ok as well, but my be a bit big for what you want.

Take a look at this forum. It has plenty of nano type tanks, some good others not so great but will give you some inspiration http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/planted-nano-tanks/

            +1 for moss

            I love Fissidens fontanus.

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

+2 for fissidens and christmas moss. Also for some reason in my 29 gallon tank I have a large mound of Japonica Bylx that the shrimp really seem to like to stay in. Probably to big though for your tank.

So what are your plans for the 10g? Same as the ADA? Or are you planning to do CO2?

ive done the whole co2 bit, i really dont have the money for the system i want, so no co2 on either tank, plus i just noticed today that my registrations out on my car as of december , LOL

so ive to take care of that, plus i really need new tires on the front of my car, (i corner like i have a porshe,LOL)
so no ada tank for now unfortunatle:(

im sticking with the 10g until april.

im a sad person right now, but by april hopefully ill have my autocad job and will be able to do a high tech ada palnted tank with the ada co2 and ada canister aswell as a 4x bulb 24" HO T5 light

                        so until then.

                        for the 10g, im doing a 20" 28watt Coralife CF 6700k bulb
ada substrate, flame moss, some small hygro, thin leaf java moss, and anubias nan "petite.

fauna will be some sort of cool shrimp.
                        a couple zebra otos
                        a few assasin snails
                        and some carinal tetras.

for filtration im going with a rena Smartfilter 30 hob.
                        for circulation i have a 70gph ph.

im going to dose root tabs as needed along with excel.
i had good success with this setup when i setup my first 10g planted tank.

heres a pic of my origanal setup.

and my 42g hex that had the same regimen.

                        i used a 65watt 24"cf flourite substrate, eheim 2217 and ex 250 ph.

i just love planted tanks, i really regret having to take both these setups down, but money was tight at that time.

im ready to get abck in it though:)

have you ever tried to argue about something with a 58 year old engineer, they apprently know everything
