I picked up a really cool half moon 10g tank. It comes with a lamp on an arm with 24w LED lights. Anyone know if I can use LED lights on a planted tank? If i go planted it will be lower light plants like ferns and crypts, just curious if anyone knew if plants will grow with LEDs

How many watts are the LEDs? Does it say what spectrum/nm they are?
I'm about to put some LEDs on a low-light planted tank, when they come in the mail. But I'd love to hear your progress if you decide to do this. :)"Millennium hand and shrimp!"

All it says is 24 watts. There are 24 small lights so I assume they are a watt each. No rating on them but they are the type you would find on a led flashlight I guess..
Dont really know what I want to do with it (impulse buy lol) but I tend to really like my planted tanks. Any suggestions on what to stock it with and how to stock it.
Just for reference this is the tank I got http://www.petstore.com/Tetra_10_Gal...AQAQKI-vi.html

Can't find any info on the light but my guess is its not right for a planted tank. I just noticed you said ferns I am sure its powerful enough for Java ferns. That is one expensive tank.

I found a little info on this tank online. Other people have been using this as a planted tank and are having pretty good results. They estimate that the bulbs are 10k rating. I got the tank for dirt cheap (25$ clearance at petco, but they only had 1 and couldn't find anymore at any other of the stores I went to). I am thinking of starting this out as a planted tank and the possible trying my hand at SW later when I have a bit more money( although I have never tried SW so I will defiantly have to research more.... and get a better light)
