  • My first planted tank

    5.5 gallon
    27 watt lighting
Currently has HC and dwarf hairgrass and aqua soil
It is my first planted tank it looks very simple at first i started planting the hc one stem at a time then i got lazy and started clumping them together, same with the dwarf hairgrass
I will be growng it emmersed or was it immersed until the hc spread I will be dosing excel later on

Careful. When the hairgrass explodes it wil send runners out and start growing in among the HC. You may not want that and its hard to fix without tearing up the HC carpet.

you will probably have an algae problem when you get water in there if you dont have CO2... to much light for just excel

Agree. I would go the DIY CO2 route.

right now the hc is getting alot greener and sending new leaves, and the hairgrass is sending some new runners and somefishguy are you sure because there are tanks on plantedtank.net that have the same tank, light, plants, and dose with excel and they are fine, but just in case ill make some diy co2, oh and one question if there is an algae problem will it go away by puttng co2? even if the algae is in the hairgrass and hc? or will i have to tear it all up and replant it?

Can you describe it a bit better? Perhaps an image? I assume it is appearing on the exposed portion of the plant. I would recommend submerging it fully and hooking up some type of filtration for the tank. I have never had that issue before though...

                  Submersed, or emersed?
