I just got back to figure out what is happening. Yes, these rules do affect the sales of plants. Basically, they are trying to create a list of plants that we can keep/sale/distribute/etc, and ones that we can't. The ones on the approved list have been tested by lab and are considered safe (safe to sale, have). However, they are trying to get more on that list. So if you have a plant that is not on either approved/illegal, and what to try to get it approve send a message to Mr. Lance Robinson: lance.robinson@tpwd.state.tx.us He will direct you what to do. If you have a scientific name, send it to him. This does include saltwater plants too. I don't have much experience with plants, but it does affect our hobby, so I wanted to have a better understanding. As for a hobbyist, the TPWD won't be knocking down doors just to collect your plant unless you are distributing/selling/releasing them. They just ask you to destroy them where they aren't released into Texas waters. Hope this helps clear up some things. Thanks.
