Re: plans for a 30g planted.

daytime, plants take in CO2 and give off O2
nitetime, plants take in O2 and give off CO2
fish take in O2 and give off CO2 all the time.
So if you have a reactor you cannot shut it down
but if you have a tank of CO2 you can shut it down at night because the plants don't need it.

wire your solenoid valve to your light power and when you turn off the lights the valve will close.
'Dear Lord,' the minister began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face. 'Without you, we are but dust ...'
He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter who was listening leaned over to me and asked quite audibly in her shrill little four-year old girl voice, 'Mom, what is butt dust?'

If it's the yeast mix do not attempt to close off the or shut off the co2 cause it will cause pressure to build up in the plastic bottle and KABOOM!!!

I had one of those and I hooked the pump up to the light timer. The co2 still comes out but just bubbles up to the surface instead of being dissipated into the water column by the pump. If I were you, or if I were to use one again, I would leave the pump on 24 hours. The amount of co2 coming out of that small of a cannister won't be excessive. I also had problems with the pump restarting in the morning. Because the cannister still expels gas, it fills the pump up with co2 and then cavitates. It would also get yeast goo built up in the venturi and I think letting the pump run 24 hours would help alleviate these two problems.
