  • Anubias!

Alright, so I come home an hour ago and find that my anubias has a new leaflet growing but this one is pretty cool!
The leaf is not at all open, kinda in a rolled up taquito form.
Cool thing about it is that it's releasing bubbles from one of the openings! Looks sooo sweet! I wish I had my Nikon to take a shot of it but the GF has it....
Has anyone ever experienced this on new leaflets? on any plant?
    Just thought I should share!!!

It's possible it could be a flower, as well. There are plenty of times I've thought something was a new leaf, and the next day I notice it's a flower. Sometimes I get excited over nothing when a new leaf pops out that's all curled up and looks suspiciously like an incoming flower. )

Not sure about the pearling, though...don't think I've ever had that happen. But no matter what, it seems your anubias is happy!

It doesn't seem like a flower but for all I know, which is literally not much, it could very much be a flower.
I'll snag the DSLR from the GF tomorrow morning and take a pic of it if it's still curled up.
It was one of the coolest things i've seen in my 10g ever since my first berried shrimp though!!!!
And I am really glad my anubias is happy!!! Who would've thought an algae covered little plant could be so happy lol

        Update!
Very much looks like a flower! Got home tonight and a normal leaf would be unfolded by now. This one shows no sign of unfolding into a leaf.
Saw pics and looks like a flower!!!

Just to ask, is flowering a sign of a thriving plant? or just regular.

I'd say definitely! Anything that wants to reproduce in your tank I would consider thriving.

It's called a spathe. Often anubias will flower when its conditions change; moved to a new tank, moved to a different part of the tank, new lamp in the light fixture, etc. Congrats.

What are the facts? Again and again and again--what are the facts? Shun wishful thinking, ignore devine revelation, forget what "the stars foretell", avoid opinion, care not what the neighbors think, never mind the unguessable "verdict of history"--what are the facts, and to how many decimal places? You pilot always into an unknown future; facts are your only clue.

Is it just me or does it take it a while to bloom?
I haven't seen it open up at all.
Has it been blooming when i'm not home? Est. bloom time?

It can take some time, and it won't be like a typical blossom. It's a spathe and spadix sitting atop a slender stalk. It is not a type of flower that opens and closes either. It should be greenish-white to bright white in color.

Here's a pic of one of my blooms. Look to the far left of the photo, about mid-way from top or bottom. This particular one is less uniform that most I've had. Ordinarliy the spadix does not poke so far out of the spathe...but it's not too uncommon.

Heehee, that's just a fraction of what I have. My 125 is scaped full of it...one of the many benefits of being a part of an aquatic plant club.

                        Pure jealousy.
I'm limiting myself to the amount of plants to buy. I'm only 4 months into the hobby and don't wanna screw it up!

Yeah, I totally get that. That's why I say it's a huge benefit to belong to a club. I have not actually paid money for a plant in 3 years. I just swap stuff or take someone's trimmings at club get-togethers. When ever I have trimming to do or just want to give something away...I take it to the club meeting...especially for newbies who are afraid of killing everything that goes into their tanks. That way if it really all dies, they have not lost any money on expensive plants. :)

The other benefit is getting to go on plant collection trips like we are doing this month and next. Not only do you get free plants, but you get to see how they grow in nature...plus it's just really fun!
