co2 seems not to pass from the bubble counter to the tank. if i open the bubble counter i can smell the co2. but for some reason will not transfer to the tank. i may have a leak. i need to get silicon and seal all the holes just for good. but my father has been on the hospital 3 times this month so father is a priority.

hope your dad gets better man! sucks to hear that =\

my bubble counter has 2 check valves so i just filled it up with water and closed it up and then u can see the bubble come up and it just pushes it out into the diffuser. i just used teflon tape at the threaded parts. everything else was hand tightened.

you can smell the co2 or the yeast? co2 should not really have much of a smell. make sure you have an airline check valve in the co2 line so you dont get that junk in the tank. you also need a diffuser that makes really small bubbles like a wooden one or else run the co2 through the intake of a powerhead which is placed at the bottom of the tank.

i think your cap on your bottle is not sealed properly/ closed tight enough so its not building enough pressure?

sorry to hear about your dad.

the reaction starts off slowly and then the pressure should build up, but that should only take a day. if it doesnt then the mixture isnt right or the yeast isnt good or you do have a leak. i used large v8 juice bottles since they have a bigger lid and i could punch a hole through the lid just big enough for the hose. then i put the hose through and used silicon sealant around the hose. lick your finger (so it doesnt stick) and smoothe the silicon around the gap. do both sides. alternately you can sometimes find rubber stoppers that you can put the hose though and then jam into your coke bottle. these are used for chemistry beakers and i found mine at a chemistry supply store long ago. if its the mixture make sure that you have the ingredients in the right proportions and the water temperature right or it could fail. if the water is too hot the yeast die, too cold and they dont multiply as quickly.

what you are smelling is the fermentation and that stuff will get strong if the bottle isnt sealed. thats how the police could find bootlegger stills back during prohibition.

well when i open teh bottle is when i smell it. from the coke bottle to the next bottle where i have just water as the bubble counter the co2 goes fine i can count from 1 bubble per second up to a bubble every 5 seconds. if i shake it then its like 2 bubbles per second.

is your bubble counter another 2L bottle? is it completely full of water or close to it? if not, the headspace of air above the water may need to pressurize as well. i would fill this up as much as i can and but a check between the two bottles as an antisiphon valve. if, for some reason, water from the counter gets drawn into the yeast reactor it could kill or slow down the batch. especially if it is chlorinated.

if the water is chlorinated out of your tap then i would think that you should condition it so it doesnt kill the yeast just in case it does backflow. i always used bottled or aquarium water for that type of thing. of course a check valve in between the bottles would keep that from happening too so u wouldnt need to waste conditioner.
