tim tells me that he has never seen an attack on nerites from assassins, my nerites (horned) dont have trapdoors but they do have the shell tooth thingies (hi tech nomenclature) so maybe thats true. they also tend to stay on glass or plants so i would bet the assassins can get to them as easily. i may throw a little olive one in with them to see.

Oh I didn't know the horned nerites were different. I have some of all the nerites that Tim had offered with my assassins

Assassins don't mess with nerites unless the nerite is dying.

I had GSA also what I did is blast the CO2, 80% water change, dose 1.5x PO4, raise my light 4" higher so it wouldn't blast my plant.
Now my plant looks very very happy.

I'm glad you're problem is clearing up.

I just started getting some GSA in my excel tank after a complete rescape recently... and its getting all over the staurogyne I am supposed to send out to people next week! I'm going with 1.5x kh2po4, hopefully it works.

I have never actually dealt with green spot algae, does it disappear or will I need to remove the affected leaves?

If it is in fact GSA dose higher phosphate levels. GSA cannot thrive in a high phosphate environment. It can also be CO2 and flow related however with me it has almost always been low phosphate.

You mentioned rescaping recently. When you rescape, trim, add or remove plants in the aquarium you should always do at the minimum a 50% water change.

So I added some horned nerites and olive nerites and the glass is perfectly clean now! Still waiting for the leaves to be cleaned off. But I did get to watch a horned nerite and assassin battle, and finally the nerite won! The assassin sulked away still hungry for a kill. Cool stuff. :)
