I always find groups of RCS in my canisters, they don't seem to mind it in there! Granted RCS are impossible to eliminate! once introduced into heavily planted setups anyway.

Amano's find their way in there too.. Not sure how, but it gives me a good excuse to maintain my canisters once a month, if only to rescue the shrimps.
I've come up with a solution for this....

when ready for removal net your fish out and pump co2 like no other. next morning all you would need to do is a nice water change and you're good to go.

That is something to keep in mind if I ever decide to totally rid of them. lol. I don't mind them that much actually. In a tank with few predators, the shrimp crawl all over -- its a bit unsightly. But in a tank where walking around in the open = death. It's not so bad!

So my Amano shrimps won't let my otos have any zucchini. This makes me sad.

I'm having the same problem trying to feed my otos Jake's Veggie Sticks...the RCS and lone amano jump on it too fast for them to get much. I started putting the veg sticks in after lights out, but I couldn't say if that's helping them get any more or not... :(

my amanos are only really active at night so it probably isnt helping, i leave a little algae in there to nibble on but otherwise this makes me wonder too. the otos cant get to the sinking discs either so maybe i need to pull them from the 75 and rehouse them til they are needed again. they do clobber the dwarf shrimps in their tank tho, they belly flop on the discs and scatter the shrimp mound like a spastic sandcastle

That's funny! I got a good mental pic of otos vs. dwarf shrimp WWE style.

My otos seem to be pretty shy...they avoid the RCS/ghosts/amano whenever possible. I'm thinking that doesn't help. Maybe if I feed the shrimp something different, like Shirakura, a few hrs before lights out, then add the veg sticks later. I'll try that next.

What other species is it that some LFS are passing off as algae eating shrimp? Do they resemble Amanos at all?

Are they new to the hobby? I searched the first 12 pages of hits on dogpile, and only got shrimp recipes--lol. Any idea what the binomial name is?

i was told that the 'algae eating shrimp' showing up from florida are a cross breed between grass shrimp and possibly a caridina species. they look close enough by themselves that i often wonder but if you put them up to a true amano then they are easy to tell apart. the amano has much better markings for one thing.
