Yes I am a new to plants so don't laugh if this is a stupid question, but how do I quarantine plants? Do I just put them in a tank for a month and see if it kills the fish in the tank? I did this with my last plants, but after transplant I noticed a lot of snails in the Q tank. So, I have added a loach and assassin snail to control. New plants in Q tank, so am I doing this right? Any advice? thanks.

There has been far more talk of this lately. Many of us were all saying that we are guilty of just tossing in any plant and never thinking twice about it. It turns out that many recent imports are treated with an insecticide that has never affected the fish, but is killing off shrimp populations. Lesson learned I suppose, lol. I'd assume a decent one week quarintine would hopefully dislodge any unwanted hitchhikers from the plant and allow for visible removal. Beyond that perhaps a generic dip of 1 part bleach and 19 parts water has been mentioned on other forums and sites. Potassium Permangenate is supposedly great, but could be tricky to get ahold of. I imagine a quick dip and quarintine for a week should get you the plants pest free...Last edited by mnemenoi; 04-08-2012, 07:23 PM.In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
