but to be corrected I actually have a jar with emersed grown hyrdoctle 'japan', crypt wendetii, eleocharis parvula and anubias nana petite. That would be considered a tank.

Why are you so defensive and hostile?
I guess I am a grumpy person :) and you definately don't seem to get my sense of humor. That's fine

back to the topic... lets see some progress of the tank.

Is this gonna be for growing plants only or do you plan on scaping the tank some?

Excuse my ignorance but is it an all-in-one or is it a macro mix with a little bit of micro added? I was going to use it as a macro fert and add a micro mix with extra iron. However it appears it may be used different according to your needs.

IS this one of the newer SHO spiral compacts that I have seen for sale? AAP recommends them pretty highly but the run pretty hot

it looks to have micros and says it is pH stabilized:

for 50-60 bucks a gallon it seems like that would be more expensive than buying dry ferts and mixing up PPS-Pro

Heck, whether you're dosing PPS-Pro or EI its still cheaper using dry ferts than using Flora Nova. Thanks for the link. :emt_thumbs:

plus i read an article on the barre report about how it is not advisable to dose micros on the same day as macros. i dont recall the exact reason but one of the macros doesnt play nice. I now dose NPK one day and alternate with CSM+B / Mg / 11% Fe on the alternates.

He was referring to potassium and iron precipitating. Those two cannot be mixed together.

Have you tried pulling up any plants or scaping yet? I'm guessing that when you do it will send a plume of nutrients into your water column...and you'll be fighting some algae (unless lighteing is adjsuted and water changes performed). Just my guess though.

I have done several tanks with the "El Natural" technique. I actually got the book after I started down that path. Would probably be a better read for an organic chemist. But I like the style of the tanks. Mostly because they require less stuff and less maintenance. I have always used standard potting soil. I have tried 1. soil mixed with flourite and capped with flourite 2. then i tried soil mixed with flourite, capped with gravel 3. and now have one just potting soil capped with gravel. All have done fairly great. Only issue i have with my current is i dont have anywhere near enough light on it. But If anyone has some 4ft HO T5's their lookin to get rid of....

Anyway the tank looks great, but I will say having a layer of sand or better small gravel makes moving plants around and scaping much much easier

i bought some limnophila aromatica 'hippuroides', pogostemon stellatus, ludwigia ovalis, and lugwigia glandulosa from him...i would imagine that they might have came from this tank or at least the same parent tank. looks like some rotala macrandra 'magenta' that he said he had might be in there too?
