  • ID this plants.

Since I can't never remember the names of the plants I buy,

What do you think this two are:

I am starting to trim them and well if people are interested on them I will probably start giving them away, including the wysteria and bacopa that I have.

thanks, that is what I was looking for.

        How should I trim them,

with the Val should i just cut the long leaves , I have been removing the sprouts that are starting to go all over the aquarium, those have roots already so I assume can be planted again.

on the Telanthera should i just cut leaves I do not see that one really expanding it is just growing in its own area or should I also start trimming stems so it can be re-planted.

on the vals you have to cut the roots, as they have runner roots and those can be replanted. if you just chop the leaf it will die. they need the root to regrow. about the Telanthera, i dont know that one. but i like it. let me know when you are trimming.

+1, i need to find a spot for telanthera myself! you can trim the tops of the vals and they wont die since the leaves grow from the base. to share some then just cut the runners and they can be replanted. telanthera is a stem plant and you can cut the top part off about halfway (or however long you want it) and then replant the top part. it will regrow roots. you can also leave the base part if you want and it will branch and grow new tops that you can then nip of and replant.

I am starting to cut the runners from the Val (it is setting them like crazy) they already have roots, and the telanthera will probably start cutting them next week and throw them into a bucket with water so then I can give them away.

The telanthera grows very slow, I got that one from those packages from petsmart which comes in very tiny stems now it is doing so good, but it took a while to get to this point.

With vals I just pull all of them out at one time, seperate the individual plants except for the tiny babies, leave them attached, and replant how ever many you want to keep and give away trade whatever you don't replant. I would just replant 8 or so bcuz they will be making runners again soon anyway. Telanthera grows slow when it has plenty of light and the longer your photoperiod is, the more compact it will grow. You can cut the stem an inch and a half or so above the gravel and it will look like its not growing for a week or two then come back fuller than before. It grows a huge root system so uprooting it is a mess. Val comes out pretty easy though if you juggle it a little as you pull up on it. How long you leave the lights on each day? Tank looks nice BTW, no algae :)

Trimming the tops of vals probably won't kill them but it makes them look funny imo

Ya if there is tons of Val and you cut it all even it looks nice but when I did it with my jungle Val the cut ends eventually turned brown.. maybe corkscrew is different? I haven't cut corkscrew before
