true that, i pulled some substrate out of one tank to start another shrimp tank and there was and old penny in it, probably had been in there for ten years. five 50% WC later and the shrimp still die within 24 hours

I think I'm just going to stick with cherry shrimp for now so I can learn the basics of raising/breeding shrimp.

That's a cost effective method of it!

RCS are really easy in comparison to some of the other readily available shrimp and make good feeder shrimp once established.

              I think you've made a great decision.

Dorothy : How can you talk if you haven't got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don't know... But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking... don't they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.

Thanks everyone for all the help! Next question is which fish store around Houston has the best looking cherrys and for the best price?

I think the nicest looking RCS I've seen is at FishGallery

As far as the best you can get with your dollar stretching the furthest... post a WTB ad here and I'm sure there are quite a few people that would scoop you out a net full for a small fee.

Many of us keep RCS in the Houston area and can help out in establishing a small colony. Once you have their parameters right and no predators you'll have shrimp everywhere. Sasha just tried experimenting with them in a glass vase on the kitchen counter and its full of shrimplets...

So it worked out after all!

even in the least ideal situation the RoaCheS manage to infest their habitat.

It did!!! No filtration and only weekly water changes, they can truly thrive anywhere
