    Re: Livebearers Paradise!

They are the cheapest......City Pets sells ADA as well and it's the same price there too.

Fish gallery on the other hand jacks the price up.

What are you looking to buy? Most of their stuff is reasonably priced when you compare the product to those similar but then again there are some things on there that are just ridiculous.

      Re: Livebearers Paradise!

well, i am not looking to buy anything at the moment, when i set up my next tank (january i think), i want an open top ADA style tank (hopefully around 100gals.), i guess i am ok with getting an ADA tank from them, just did not know if the same thing was available cheaper anywhere else, i went to the ADG office last week and saw 3 planted tanks, i was just in LOVE, could not move my eyes away, ok before i embarass myself - now i HAVE TO HAVE something similar (have to wait till jan. at least though), i loved the tank in mike's office (i think his name was mike), it was cardi's and 4 to 6 rams, and i think i saw some shrimps - a sight to behold :)
      65 gallon - ADA 120p - planted
55 gallon - AGA standard - mix cichlid
      30 gallon tall - eclipse acrylic - semi-planted

Yeah Mike's tanks are always "different" but stunning at the same time!

To be honest I don't think I saw a tank I did not like at ADG.

          Re: Livebearers Paradise!

I just have to say how much I like the simplicity of that tank.  I have been wanting to try my hand at another planted tank....didn't have too much luck the last time.  I think it was a combination of lack of experience and the wrong plants.  I had just started getting on here and tried too much tooo soon.

How tall is the tank that you have going.  I have a 40 gallon that's 19" tall, is that too tall for low light plants?

            Re: Livebearers Paradise!

It all depends on what you wanna spend really....the taller the tank the more lighting you will need to penetrate the bottom of the tank....The tank I have is a regular 30g long which looks to be about 18-19" tall as well.

Also if you stick with slow growing low light plants it all works out better if you don't want to bother with it much.

If you need some help I don't mind helping you set up something.

I know you are a light fiend....is the 2x65 enough for the setup that you have or do you really need more.  I noticed that you only keep it on for a short period of time as well.  If I keep the set up by a window would that help to supplement the lighting needs?

                Re: Livebearers Paradise!

Having it by the window helps but it's unpredictable as well as uncontrollable sorta.

I have this tank in the corner of the room which is also somewhat near a window. The lighting is on for about 6-7hrs a day but I am running 130w over the tank which most planted tank people would crap on themselves about since there is a "rule" with lighting......and that being that 3watts per gallon is considered high light and that would require ferts co2 etc..... I don't add all that but I do plan on stocking the tank heavily and controlling my photo period to simulate low light over this tank. The 2x65 is probably overkill for the tank and I am sure I could get away with a simple T5 setup with about 48w's or so...which is the cheapest fixture I found for this length tank either that or go with a 1x65w PC.

Also the plants are low light requirement plants or slow growing so they could thrive in much less lighting then what I am running on the tank and the plants are somewhat only in a small section of the tank so the majority of the lighting is needed there.

On my planted 30g long I have a 2x96w fixture on it and it does fine but sometimes I feel it is lacking a bit.

I'll pick some up either tonight or tomorrow. Don't worry, my tanks are small! I only need a few more.

And ditto to you, don't take them all!!  I'll let you know how they look if I get there first. And I'll definitely be Qting them, no matter what.

Went to the NASH meeting and scored some really nice Vals.Nana so I will be putting it in this tank as well.

Man they are super small! I got 11 of them but think I should go get another 10 so they can be all together and happy.
