Very nice where did you get the hydropiper I've been looking everywhere for some. Also lava and lace rock is inert you can do vinegar test on them to see if it bubbles then it is not if it doesn't it's inert

I like the dimensions of that 12 gallon tank.

Ive had plenty of CRS in this tank before with that same lace rock in it, its inert, doesnt release anything. Lava rock does release iron ions at a low ph (6-6.5), but even that low amounts of iron are fine for crs, this type of lace rock doesnt even contain iron, even if it did, it definitely didnt stop my previous crs colony from breedind like crazy.

I got the hydropiper from tom barr, I have another golf ball coming from another user from tpt, hopefully in a month or two I can start sharing some of it. I have some planted in a grow out tupperware just in case I kill the drystart stuff, and I have some in my crs tank just to hedge my bets, its a really nice looking plant, way nicer than glosso, it almost looks like sesame seed sprouts.

the vinegar test just alerts you to the presense of calcium carbonate as i recall, i dont think it technically proves that the stone is inert. other minerals could leech out that dont react with muriatic acid

Thats true, and lava rock does leach out iron ions, but iron ions wont kill CRS, at least from personal experience they havent.

Beautiful tank, and I love that first scape. Looking forward to updates as it grows out and finally gets filled in...kudos for being patient, I'm not sure I could wait that long either!

Love the little tank. the scape will look fantastic. It will be fun watching the growout. If you can post a picture one a week. I'm sure everyone would like to see the changes.

what? no one to comment on the rocks being unbalanced off to the side like that? lol, i like the scape too...its going to be nice when the lawn starts reaching up to the rocks. good to see someone who isnt hung up on how stones 'should' be placed.

LoL, it is a bit off but the scape and imagining it grown in makes up for that.

so many planted tanks look the same I like this one because it doesn't follow "the normal".
