Interesting...I never thought about excel being a problem with so many plants. I dose excel in the Ebi and haven't had problems with crypts, except the crypt spiralis I guess- still trying to figure out why that plant doesn't like me.
The willow moss, other crypts and marimo in there are all doing fantastic. The blyxa japonica was not really happy in there, but it was also getting uprooted and not getting enough light, so it's been moved to the new 6g which is all RO and much higher light...but that tank is also getting big excel doses, cause I'm fighting green slime algae in there. Hmm. I'll keep an eye on the blyxa, we'll see what it can take.

are you doing overdoses on the willow moss tank? i have last half of mine in just a couple days. it was fine until i started dosing so its not the lights, they are upgraded but not too much i think.

Oh, good point. Not really, I guess... it's a 7.9g, and I dose it as a 10g. I do 5ml after a 50% WC once a week, then 1ml "daily" (as I remember, so maybe 4-5 times a week). I dose this same ratio and schedule on the 45g and the 6g.

So the problems shouldn't show up until you're dosing 1.5x or more?

i jumped straight into the 1.5x dosing, maybe i should have stepped it up. and they say CO2 is a PITA.

well maybe more than 1.5x since i was measuring with the cap and thats not accurate at that small amount. guess my lazy self needs to find a pipette or dropper.

I cap-measure, too...and keep telling myself I need to stop doing that. I'll see if I can get a handful of baby med droppers that measure in mL from the pharmacy next time I go, share em out at the meeting.

excel breaks down in 12-15 hours, it needs to be daily and dosed in the morning IMO

only reading the first page, but willow moss is a cold water moss, it typically does not do well in tropical temperatures.

and it is widely acknowledged within the planted tank community that excel's halflife is about 12 hours, which means it never totally dissappears, just becomes progressively less useful. I am sure seachem has the experiments to confirm this.

As far as mosses go, I've seen xmas, flame and java thrive in an excel tank - recommended dose of course and never directly on it.
