it would not be dangling, although i was looking into the pendant lights :)

this one should be fixed on to the ceiling, but i am actually scrapping this plan

i will just wait till late november or january when i start my larger planted tank, i plan on completely changing this tank and making this one a small cichlid tank with no live plants, that way i can still use my hood and leave it as it is and just get my planted tank fix on the new tank
