Have you thought about a background? I think the green of the plants would show up very nice with a black background.

It has been up and running for only a few weeks. I decommissioned a Fluval Spec and put most of the plants into this. Not sold on the Crypt parva in the foreground and might replace it with DHG.

I certainly have thought about a background, just not quite sure what yet. Most likely will go with white, I am afraid black with the dark substrate will make it too gloomy.

With it open in the back like that you can buy a pack of different colored construction paper and experiment with which color you like best.

Looks like a good start on the planting.

nice tank! i love little tanks done well like this! :) pretty nice aesthetics and balance. the mossy thicker driftwood piece in the middle sort of distacts me, but i do love the moss, and i'm sure the shrimp do, too.

                    - where did you get the nano branches? i have been looking for delicate twiggy looking ones like you have....
                    - what don't you like about the crypt parva? i'm considering it for a <1 gallon nano tank
                    - about the substrate...how do you like it? was it easy to plant in? does it impact the shrimp in any way? does it have some sort of benefit that affects plant growth?

i really like this little tank! nice project!

The moss covered wood in the middle looks much better now. It has grown in and resembles a tree. Shrimp love it.

I ordered the nano branches from a member on Planted Tank.

Crypt parva grows really slow, thats my only complaint. I want a dense foreground like dwarf hairgrass.

Substrate is great. Very easy to plant in (though I use fine tip tweezers). No problems keeping shrimp in it. Doesnt really have any benefit to plants besides being easy to root in. I added some Osmocote Plus underneath it for nutrients.

yeah my parva is growing really slowly too, tim seems to be growing it well but hasnt told his secret yet "what, is parva hard to grow?" i had a chance to buy a good bit of that floramax but when i read up on it some people were complaining that is was hardening their water...have you been monitoring kH? it looks nice and its inexpensive. i need to break down and buy some more fine tweezers, planting with feeding tongs isnt cutting it lol. i about pulled my hair out planted blyxa and parva

I have not been monitoring kH. Not really worried about it either with just cherries. I do weekly ~25% water changes with bottled water, so I don't imagine its climbing too high.

Fine tweezers are invaluable! I tried planting some parva months back before them and it sucked. Probably took me a few hours to plant less than is currently in this tank. Best $10 investment I have made.

Tank looks great, I have found that keeping the parva together seemed to make it look far better and grow more quickly. It is a very slow grower though, but we do not use C02. Have you considered adding some Crypt spiralis as a trailing back? I think it looks great in smaller nanos. Tank looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing it all fill in...
