  • 28 Gallon Bowfront Planted Crystal Shrimp Build Thread

After having relatively good success with my 6 gallon Fluval Edge I have decided to set up another freshwater tank. I am using a 28 gallon tank that I previously had set up for breeding black and white clownfish.

    Current Equipment:
28 Gallon Perfecto glass aquarium with back painted black and drilled for two 1/2 bulkheads.

    Hydro ETH In-Line Heater 200 watt, 5/8"

Two 8.8 pound bags of Fluval Shrimp Stratum

24-36" Marineland PLANT LED LIGHT W/TIMER

I got my first order of plant in from Arizona Aquatic Gardens today which included:
    4 Lilaeopsis mauritiana
    1 Pogostemon erectus
    3 Hemianthus callitricoides
    3 Glossostigma

I plan on letting the plants establish themselves emersed before adding water to the tank. I will post some pictures of the plants once I break them out of their pots and get them planted.

Yesterday I broke up all of the potted plants and placed them into small clumps in the substrate.

I also ordered a Atomic Nano CO2 V2 Kit from Green Leaf. I needed something small that would fit in the aquarium stand and everyone seems to have good things to say about this piece.

looks like a pretty nice setup. Those G3 filters look pimp. I am interested to see if those lights will be enough for HC and glosso. How do you feel about your transaction with AAG? I used to use them all the time but others have had bad experiences lately.

I have only ordered from AAG once and did not have a problem. This new order should be here this week.

marineland LED plant light has really really high par, it's strong light. you'll need good CO2 set up for it XD. The only down side is the light beam is quite concentrated and narrow, it's best to use on long tank with width under 15 inches

yeah i imagine its the same fixture as the Reef model only with different temperature LEDs. Reefers give their fixture decent reviews. I havent seen any results from the planted one yet though so I look forward to that

I actually was looking into getting one of this, but my current tank length is 30 inches and width is 18 inches so the light distribution will be pretty bad at the edge. That's what I know from reviews. Also, pricing is a huge factor. The plant LED fixture is a bit high on the price, nevertheless, par rating is in the high light neighborhood and will need CO2 to work.

I am very happy with the light. It does a great job lighting up this tank and I anticipate that the plants will be happy under them but only time will tell.

I got back from a week long vacation yesterday and had all kinds of goodies in the mail. I added two Seiryu rocks, crystal feeding bowl, and the CO2 setup to the tank. Here is a full tank shot taken today.
