The cartridge was empty. I attached a new one and it better last more than a week or I am going to have to try something else. I can't afford $520+ in CO2 costs per year.

the Fluval co2 system cost quite a lot, you should just buy your own equipment and make one, and use a 5-10 lbs tank. I didn't have time to invest in a co2 system which is why I went the low tech medium light way using flourish excel as supplement. It's been a month since the tank was set up and the moss carpet is filling up nicely, faster than I expected.
