check your phone, I really need to make the jump to pressurized co2 so I can kill more algae. Its gotten much better and my shrimp hide from me tetras so they stay in the corner but controlling lighting seems to have been the key. Its carpeting pretty good though, the original amount I got hit hard with BBA so did the anubias nana but they've flourished since then.

        Re: Carpets etc etc

I don't run co2 on my nano and the light is on for about 12-14 hours. Haven't seen an outbreak since the first two months when the tank was new. Only BBA and diatom though. I barely started to dose excel about 2 (?) months ago, so I don't notice if it actually keeps algae at bay. I've been told it does, and that it'll have ill effects on certain plants. As far as I know, I only had the latter happen but it wasn't crucial because I started with a very minimal dosage. Seems to affect mosses, stem, and carpet plants the most.

I find packing the tank with lots of plants is the surefire way to choke out the algae. It's safe and you don't have to mess with excel or co2 that could possibly do more harm than good if the dosage is off.

You can also introduce amano shrimp, nerite snails, or o cats to help manually remove the BBA

They are lazy once you feed the tank. If you don't feed the tank, they will eat the BBA
