  • Problem wirh Rabbit Snails

I bought some rabbit snails from armthehomeless, last year and I notice that a few of the snails are having erosion on their shells.I tried to get in touch with Mike, but I guess he's busy, busy.I have a 20L with amazonia and a few anubus plants. Is it a calcium problem?I have 2 filters on the tank. How to fix the problem before I order more snails? One snail was busting out of the middle of his shell.....Help

Sounds like calcium problem. Calcium tends to drop as pH does, at least in my case. My assassins are exhibiting the same effects as yours. I also have amazonia and driftwood. pH is about 6.6 I think? Forgot what it was when I tested it. For the most part, they seem to be getting better as I do small water changes with tap water which usually comes out at about 7-7.6. It helps replenish minerals and keep the pH from dropping to the lower 6.

you can add a media bag of aragonite but I don't think you can fix the problem.

maybe some super glue on the ends will help or some coral putty

The Amazonia will keep lowering the pH. You'd have to keep them in a higher pH tank, best would be over 7.

Indeed, they are from the Sulawesi region and require hard alkaline water, preferably 8.0 and above.

                  Sorry . . . I've been pretty busy lately.

Agreed. They like hard water. Aquasoil is not the best environment for tylomelania snails over a long period of time. Coral putty will work.

Dorothy: Yes, I guess you're right.
