  • Found a Way to Combat Stingy Hair Algae

Chemical warfare did absolutely nothing to the plants and killed some of my livestock.
Gasing them with CO2 just slowed it down very little.
Cutting back lights and irregular light schedule did nothing.
Amanos got tired of mowing them down.
I finally got something that might help.

Yep, it's that thing you use to unclog the shower or sink drain. Similar to the toothbrush, but the toothbrush does not work. I tried.

Good call! I might try that, I'm fighting this stuff in my daughter's planted tank.

In 2 other tanks, I've got something like this, but short- brush algae, I guess? I've tried spot treating it with H202 a couple times, but it doesn't seem to be working as well as I'd hoped- any advice on that one before I start a help-me thread?

      Its a good bandaid alternative.

      Toothbrush works too.

Ultimately there's still a problem to address.

Good find though, would also make a good pipe cleaner.

Mmm. Good point. I can't figure out what the underlying problem is with mine, I've never had this much of a problem with algae. Guess it's time to start a thread and see if I can get it figured out.

WHY YOU GOTTA BE RIGHT SO MUCH, Q?!? Jeez.

I just posted up a thread with pics- some is short and tough, some long and slimy...I'm beyond confused.

my humble opinion most algae issues is a CO2 not being optimum along with light and fetilizer. come by lets talk.. maybe i can figure it out. hehehe
