I am about to purchase a 48X15.5X32 inch aquarium from a friend of mine. as you can see it is pretty tall almost three feet and I am wanting to plant some plants in there. All sorts of plants some that will grow all the way up bottom mid all that stuff. Does anyone have experience with tall tanks and the types of lights that would be the best? Any suggestions and input is appreciated.

T5's and PC's should work. MH would as well. Might have to amp up the wattage to account for the depth, but just start with 2WPG and move up/add on as needed. A T5 quad should be a very good start. 10,000k - 12,000K IMO for penetration as the 6500K is a bit weaker with depth

I would look into spotlight LEDs. I have 6x 9w 6500k bulbs on my 55g and they would very easily penetrate another foot of depth. Cheap too. About 60-70.00 in total for the sockets and bulbs

Ok I am going to need A LOT of plants tall plants mid plants bottom plants and what not. Where am I going to gt all these plants. I am ok with spending some money on this tank because let's be honest it is going to be awesome. But I am going to need a lot of plants to start this baby up. Where can I get a bulk supply of plants. I have looked at aquabid and am not impressed with their"starter kits" the majority of the plants I am not interested in or require high light ferts and what not. I am just wanting maybe three or four tall growing plants one that has some red-orangeish colors in it. 2-3 mid range plants and then i can figure out the bottom. I have an idea of how I want to scape this tank and I think this will give me the best chance of accomplishing it.

What brand of lights are you using? Any way you could post a picture of your tank with those lights?
