  • I have heard that using a coarse sand would work best for plants. Is this true, or does it vary per plant?

    • I use a Eco complete plant substrate with some light gravel mixed in and have had a lot of luck with it along with dosing and root tabs

Either works fine. Several people use pool filter sand which is a smaller grit size. Plants will do fine in any substrate. Although some substrates alter pH and some plants can't handle certain parameters. Root tabs are generally added to all substrate unless it already has nutrients like ADA Amazonia and Akadama, etc. You could still add root tabs to those substrates as well.

          • Not entirely sure. I'll be pretty busy this month to really go anywhere.

              • You could swing by my place if you want. There's usually always someone home and they could take the mollies and give you the assassins

                    • So I am throwing in the towel on this endeavor as it really wasn't what I expected thinking about doing a bigger saltwater tank with a shark or a ray ?

                      • aw... Well I guess planted tank isn't for you :(... it does have its own set of challenges, hopefully you'll find something fun to do . Big tank like yours is pretty hard to manage.. As least you tried!!

Hope the next set up makes you happier! Nothing like a new project..!
